And other people have no problems streaming with SMB. I have seen others report buffering issues, particularly with 4K sources. What is also peculiar is that none of my other media streamers (Q10 Pro, NUC with Windows 10, Dune Solo 4K, AppleTv 4, Vten, Zappiti Player 4K) show any of these buffering issues running on the same network connected to my MacPro.
I have only been able to setup Kodi/ZDMC using mounted favorite NFS shares list in the mnt/nfs folder on the root directory (frustrating).
And Kodi can find the NFS directory, but cannot enter into any of the folders in the drives.

Unfortunately I have not figured out how to connect Kodi (or ZDMC) to my MacPro via the Mac's native SMB - I keep on getting broken pipe errors. If I play the same movies from a ExFAT formatted USB Stick, they play fine. I have even got a replacement Zidoo X9S to verify that the issue was not hardware based (the replacement had the same buffering problems). If I use SMBup on my MacPro to make the Mac's SMB more "compatible", playback is improved, but buffering issues still are present. The buffering issues are present with the Media Center player, or using ZDMC and the external player. The higher the bitrate encoding or more complex the playback (for instance VC1 movies, or movies with Dolby Atmos Soundtracks) the worse the buffering issues. I am using firmware 1.2.6.īut when I tried to playback any lossless blu-ray MKV rip, the Zidoo had horrible video stuttering. And NFS sharing has less overhead than SMB. I mainly choose NFS since the MacOS SMB (in Sierra 10.12 or earlier) is not very compatible with other devices.
And all connections are through Cat 6 Gigabyte Ethernet cables and switches. My streaming source is a Late 2013 MacPro. However it seems that the Zidoo X9S has significant playback issues (presume streaming) with high bit rate lossless blu-ray rips. I just recently purchased a Zidoo X9S based on very promising positive playback reviews.
